MOOSE MOUNTAIN ADVENTURES
Remote wilderness experiences, off the beaten path

If you are looking for a slow-paced, peaceful excursion into the Maine woods, perhaps to see or learn about moose, deer, bear, and more... these weekend retreats will not disappoint.

Track moose following their "signs", look for shed antlers, paint or sketch from nature, take spectacular photographs, learn to use a compass, become "woods wise".

Less than 4 hours north of Boston, the tiny village of Andover is nestled in a beautiful mountain valley along the Appalachian trail. It is not a tourist area, but a quiet little logging town in the remote Maine mountains, miles from anywhere... A bit like NH's white mountains... but without the "visitors"!

Our hand-peeled log lodge (see photo below, left) is perched high on a remote ridge, five miles north of town, and powered by the sun. It is the site of most meals (we bring lunch on the trail) and where we begin and end our hikes and snowshoe treks. Evening "entertainment" consists of: campfires, stories, short midnight hikes, mountain "solos", stargazing, cards, pool, and other fun games.

ACCOMMODATIONS: If you are truly adventureous, love the outdoors and solitude, tent-camping on our 70 acre mountaintop among the birches and pines, is the ultimate wilderness experience! If you need a bathroom closer than 1/4 mile walk, our mountainview guest room has 1/2 bath, or the guesthouse in town (5 miles away) has rooms with a full private bath.
